Enabling fuzzy matching expands your search parameters to include variations on your search criteria, in addition to exact matches. For example, searching for ‘Jon’ with fuzzy matching enabled may also return results for ‘John’ and 'Jonn.'
To enable fuzzy matching, click the enable fuzzy matching checkbox at the bottom of any search tab.
Note: Fields that support fuzzy matching will turn light blue when the checkbox is enabled.
Note: Fuzzy matching operates differently depending on the particular field and the search term entered into that field. For example:
- Some fields support prefix matching (e.g. ‘Jon’ will match for ‘Jonathan’) and others do not.
- Only a few fields support both prefix and suffix matching (i.e. matching either the first letters or last letters); the main field being Reporting Event Number.
- The degree of 'fuzziness' that will return matches varies depending on the length of a search term (i.e. longer search terms can still return matches, but with more differences in the search results).
